Course Objectives:

The objectives of the BOSIET (with CA-EBS) – [STCW 95/2010 Conversion] are that learners will be able to:

(a) Gain a basic understanding and appreciation of offshore oil and gas operations.
(b) Identify key elements of living and working offshore.
(c) Demonstrate, in a simulated environment, that they can use the safety equipment, and follow procedures in preparing for, and during helicopter emergencies – with particular focus on escaping from a helicopter following a ditching
(d) Demonstrate sea survival techniques
(e) Demonstrate that they can effectively use self-rescue equipment, and practise selfrescue techniques in low visibility situations, to include smoke-filled areas.

Prerequisites:

Learners must hold valid STCW 95/2010 Basic Safety Training module certificates*, including:
-Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
-Elementary First Aid
-Personal Survival Techniques
-Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
or
Valid STCW Refresher Certificates including:
– Updated Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques
– Updated Proficiency in Firefighting and Fire Prevention
and
A valid OPITO Minimum Industry Safety Training (MIST) certificate or OPITO International MIST certificate.

*Certificates must be issued by training organisations located in International Maritime Organisation (IMO) member states as detailed in  MSC.1/Circ.1163/Rev12

Fitness:

A good standard of general fitness is required – learners will complete a medical fitness questionnaire at the centre at the commencement of the courses.

Course Content

This course is for individuals who are in the Maritime Industry and, for whatever reason, are looking to either move to the Oil and Gas industry OR make themselves more marketable by having certificates for both the Maritime and the Oil and Gas Industry. The idea is that this course reduces duplication of learning (which saves money and time) and combined with the online OPITO I/MIST course (which OATC can facilitate registration of) the result is the learner will have the equivalent of an OPITO BOSIET CA-EBS (which is mandatory to work offshore in the oils and gas industry ).
