OPITO Digital Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with CA-EBS

All personnel new (or returning) to the offshore oil and gas industry who will be supplied with a compressed air emergency breathing system (CA-EBS) during offshore helicopter travel

Course Objectives:

Learners are introduced to the specific safety issues and regimes relevant to offshore installations which will equip them with the basic emergency response knowledge and skills for travelling to and from offshore installations by helicopter.

The objectives of the BOSIET (with CA-EBS) Training are that learners will be able to:

(a) Identify the generic hazards which are specific to offshore oil and gas installations, potential risks associated with those hazards, and how controls are put in place to eliminate or reduce risks.

(b) Identify key offshore related safety regulations and explain the basic safety management concepts

(c) Demonstrate, in a simulated environment, that they can use the safety equipment, and follow procedures in preparing for, and during helicopter emergencies – with particular focus on escaping from a helicopter following ditching (d) Demonstrate sea survival and first aid techniques

(e) Demonstrate that they can effectively use basic firefighting equipment, and practise self-rescue techniques in low visibility situations, including smoke-filled areas.

Course Content

OPITO Digital - BOSIET includes the OPITO Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS). It is often referred to as 'offshore survival training. The course is delivered as a combination of
e-learning and practical training. Learners will complete the e-learning elements of the course remotely from a smartphone, desktop computer, laptop or tablet prior to the 1-day practical training which is delivered at Offshore Africa Training Centre in Cape Town.
PLEASE NOTE:
Learners must have access to a device and an internet connection to complete the e-learning elements of D-BOSIET with CA-EBS on the OPITO Digital Learning Portal.
Is OPITO BOSIET mandatory?
Yes, for personnel working in an offshore setting it is very likely mandatory to get an OPITO BOSIET certificate. Remember that it is not only a legal concern. It is a matter of being able to handle yourself and your co-workers properly in a high-risk situation.
Course Content
To achieve the Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System) Training the learner will need to complete the 4 mandatory units.

  1. Safety Induction
  2. Helicopter Safety and Escape CA-EBS
  3. Sea Survival and First Aid
  4. Firefighting and Self Rescue
PLEASE NOTE:
Upon booking learners will be registered for the e-learning elements of the course on the OPITO Digital Learning Portal. The e-learning must be successfully completed prior to attending the practical training sessions. The practical training session must be completed within 90 days of completing the e-learning elements.
