Located in the vibrant city of Cape Town, South Africa, the Offshore Africa Training Centre (OATC) proudly stands as the first South African training centre to achieve OPITO accreditation in the region. We specialise in two technical areas: Rigging and Lifting operations, offering a range of OPITO-certified courses and OPITO Offshore Survival courses including BOSIET, FOET and HUET CA-EBS.

At OATC, our team of instructors and assessors brings a wealth of industry experience to the classroom, holding recognised and OPITO assessor qualifications. With most international Operators, OPITO certification is the minimum requirement to be considered for employment.

GARY CONCAR

CEO & TRAINING MANAGER

Meet Gary Concar, founder of Offshore Africa Training Centre. Gary is an industry veteran with hands-on experience dating back to 1994. His diverse career spanned tasks from FPSO replacements to riser installations, handling 500T platforms, and mooring FPSOs. These journeys along the west coast enriched his expertise through valuable experiences and lessons.

In January 2009, Gary joined Sparrows Global, a major offshore staffing firm, contributing as an OPITO level 4 Rigger and Banksman/Slinger on BP’s Greater Plutonio FPSO. His roles expanded to Heli-deck landing officer, heli-deck crew member, forklift operator, and emergency response fire team member.

In 2013, Gary’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish South Africa’s inaugural OPITO training center, realised by the close of 2014. He holds current OPITO Stage 4 Rigger and OPITO Stage 4 Banksman/Slinger qualifications, in addition to being a certified OPITO Assessor.
